IRISH PEACE PARK

The Irish Peacepark with the round tower located in Mesen (Belgium), is a project of the Irish organisation " A Journey or Reconciliation".
It was moored from July to November 1998 young people from northern Ireland and the Irish Republic, as a symbol of peace and propitiation.
The Peacepark was inaugurated solemnly on 11 November 1998 by the Irish president Mary McAleese, in the presence of queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and king Albert II of Belgium, of queen Paola accompanied.
The site was devised by the architects O' Grady (Ireland) and Breyne (leper-België). The Round Tower refer to the medieval towers which were accelerated in Ireland by the Celts as maintaining against the Vikings. In the tower are the names of approximately 49 000 Irish deads from WOl be retrieve in the War Memorial Books. On the path to tower nine flat stones with personal depositions lie.
